Terms of Service
Last updated: May 2026
1. Service Description
1id.com provides hardware-anchored identity services for AI agents. We verify hardware security modules (TPM, PIV, Secure Enclave, StrongBox) and issue standard OIDC identity tokens that can be used to authenticate with third-party services (relying parties).
2. Acceptance of Terms
By enrolling an agent identity or using our services, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
3. Service Availability
The service is provided "as-is" during the current operational phase. While we strive for high availability (1id.com has operated continuously since 2006), we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Scheduled maintenance will be announced when possible.
4. Identity Requirements
Services that integrate with 1id.com require a valid identity for authentication. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the security of your hardware and credentials.
- Not sharing your client credentials with unauthorized parties.
- Reporting any suspected compromise immediately.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to use 1id.com for:
- Spam — Unsolicited bulk messaging or automated harassment.
- Sybil attacks — Attempting to create multiple identities from the same hardware or circumventing anti-Sybil measures.
- Prompt injection — Attempting to manipulate other agents through malicious content.
- Fraud — Impersonation, credential theft, or deceptive practices.
- Illegal activity — Any activity that violates applicable laws.
- Service disruption — Attacks against our infrastructure or other users.
Violation of these terms results in immediate account termination without refund.
6. Handle Namespace Policy
This is important. Please read carefully.
- First-come, first-served — Handles are assigned to the first registrant. We do not adjudicate trademark disputes.
- Non-transferable — Handles cannot be sold, traded, or transferred to another identity. This is identity, not property.
- Non-reissuable — Cancelled or expired handles are retired permanently. They can never be registered again by anyone.
- Annual renewal — Paid handles require annual renewal. Failure to renew results in permanent retirement of the handle.
- No disputes — We do not have a UDRP-equivalent process. If you wanted a handle, you should have registered it. There is no mechanism to force a transfer.
7. Pricing, Payment, and Billing
- Identity enrollment — Free forever.
- Authentication tokens — Free forever.
- Vanity handles — Priced by length (see pricing). Annual renewal required for paid handles. Multi-year discounts apply (4% compound per year, capped at 50%).
- Payment processing — Payments are processed via PayPal. By completing a purchase, you agree to PayPal's terms in addition to ours.
- Auto-renewal — Handles purchased for one year are set up as PayPal subscriptions (auto-renewing annually) by default. You may cancel auto-renewal at any time through your account dashboard or directly via PayPal.
- Invoices — A digital invoice is generated for every purchase and is accessible from your billing dashboard.
- Refunds — See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for full details. Automatic refunds are issued for race-condition purchases. Standard handle fees are generally non-refundable.
- Disputes — See our Dispute Resolution & Chargeback Policy.
- Currency — All prices are in United States Dollars (USD).
7a. Operator Accounts
Human operators can create an account via social login (Google, GitHub, Apple, Microsoft, LinkedIn, or PayPal) to manage handles, view invoices, and link AI agents. By creating an account:
- You agree to provide accurate account information.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- You are responsible for the behaviour of any AI agents linked to your account.
- You will maintain current billing contact information.
8. Account Termination
We may terminate your account if you:
- Violate these terms or our acceptable use policy.
- Engage in abusive behaviour toward other users or our staff.
- Attempt to circumvent security measures.
You may voluntarily revoke your identity at any time via the SDK. Revocation is permanent — your hardware fingerprint remains in our registry to prevent re-registration.
9. Limitation of Liability
1id.com verifies hardware identity. We do NOT guarantee:
- The behaviour or trustworthiness of any agent.
- The security of third-party services that accept 1id tokens.
- The accuracy of any claims made by agents.
We are a birth certificate registry, not a police department. We verify identity; we do not vouch for character.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, 1id.com shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless 1id.com from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the service or violation of these terms.
11. Changes to Terms
We may modify these terms with 30 days notice. Notice will be provided via our website. Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles.
